MinManB4.gif (34618 bytes) 20' Tall Minute Man Statue-Before Treatment -This along with (5) other sculptures were conserved by CRI. This photo depicts the bronze covered with chlorides and areas of dark corrosive debris. CRI conserved this Felix de Weldon sculpture using the Armex Accustrip System© developed by Arm & Hammer ©. This system using water, compressed air and baking soda. We blasted at pressures between 30-50 psi at the surface. This system is gentle on the bronze surfaces and will not etch the surface. All sculptures were repatinized to a dark brown color and coated with Incralac©. That small object in lower left corner is a person's foot! See below for after treatment photo.

Minuteman Statue After Treatment Minute Man Statue-After Treatment- -After the sculpture was cleaned and rinsed, it was allowed to dry and rinsed a second time to remove all traces of the baking soda. We then applied a patina solution in successive steps to reach the dark, rich brown color. The sculpture was then dried again and coated with (5) layers (of 1 mil each) of Incralac©. The sculpture was then coated with Butcher's Bowling Ally Wax©.
